Starting August 1, Thais will be allowed to enter Taiwan without the hassle of getting a visa.
Thai citizens will be able to stay in Taiwan for up to 30 days, visa-free. The exemption will last until the end of July 2017, for now, according to an announcement on the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand’s website.
Li Dawei, Minister of Foreign Affairs Republic of China (Taiwan), explained that this visa exemption will aid travelers from ASEAN countries in visiting Taiwan. He also revealed that Thailand, Philippines, and Indonesia are at the first countries to be provided with visa exemption.
With the visa exemption, Premier Lin Chuan hopes that the number of tourists from Southeast Asia will increase by 20 percent, bringing an estimated income of THB14.8 billion to the country per year, reported Radio Taiwan International.
Further details about the visa exemption will be announced later on the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand’s website.
