Nok Air canceled nine flights yesterday, affecting some 1,500 passengers, after a small pilot protest.
Hundreds of passengers were left stranded at Don Mueang Airport after a group of four or five pilots decided to hold a protest, although it was unclear what they were protesting about, Thai PBS reported.
Nok Air CEO Pathee Sarasin believed the protest was due to the pilots’ dissatisfaction with the company taking steps to upgrade aviation safety to meet international standards.
He said passengers affected would be offered alternative flights, hotel accommodation or refunds.
The flights affected were ones heading to Khon Kaen, Hat Yai, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Surat Thani, Phitsanulok, Phuket and Ubon Ratchathani.
Airports of Thailand will hold a meeting with Thai airlines this afternoon to discuss measures for dealing with pilot strikes, the Nation reported.
