As the H7N9 begins to rack up casualties across Asia, Thai officials are certain: it ain’t here.
Reports of an outbreak of bird flu circulating on social media were dismissed as false and damaging yesterday by Yugal Limlaemthong, minister of agriculture.
Those responsible for the message were clearly tyring to harm Thailand’s poultry industry by scaring buyers. Last week Japan ended a decade-long ban on Thai chicken imports, and Yugol expects chicken valued at THB40 billion will go to Japanese consumers this year.
Yugol asked people not to share the report online, Thai PBS reported.
