Commuters who use non-air conditioned buses around Greater Bangkok will have to pay an additional 20% if they wish to travel in the late evening, reports said.
Buses being run by the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) will increase their fare by TBH1.5 between the hours of 11pm and 5am, said Opas Phetmunee, the BMTA director, on Wednesday.
Fares for the rest of the day and on fully air-conditioned buses will remain unchanged, he added. Red-cream buses have a flat rate of TBH6.50 while blue-cream buses charge TBH8.
The Bangkok Post reports that the increase was implemented to cover the increasing costs of diesel fuel and natural gas.
