A 24-year-old woman escaped an attempted rape from a drug-addicted man in the parking lot at Fashion Island on Ramindra Road in Bangkok recently.
Miss Chayathorn Purichayapattarathon, 24-years-old, was getting into her car in the mall’s parking lot when she was accosted and punched in the stomach by the suspect, who then attempted to push her into the back seat of the car and tie her wrists down.
The suspect, 22-year-old Mr. Sampan Srikacha, said that he was going to take her to see someone who badly wanted to meet her, according to Matichon. But the victim bit the man’s leg and was able to escape, running out into the parking lot and calling for help.
The suspect followed her and tried to tell people that he was her boyfriend and that they were having a fight, but when the crowd grew larger he fled in his car.
Commissioner of Metropolitan Police Bureau Pol. Lit. Gen Winai Thongsong announced the arrest of Sampan in Chachengsao Province. He was found with a knife, a red cap, black sandals, and the nylon ropes which were reportedly used in the rape attempt.
Sampan confessed that he had been addicted to methamphetamines for two years. On the day of the crime he had taken meth and driver his brother’s car around Fashion Island, before committing the crime spontaneously. He said that he felt bad and apologized for his actions.
The victim said she had not noticed the Sampan follow her to her car. She said that she would be more careful from now on and that she wasn’t sure if she would be so lucky in a situation like this again.
