Woman detained at Suvarnabhumi for smuggling ice from Philippines

Bangkok authorities recently recovered four kilograms of crystal methamphetamine worth over TBH14 million at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport.

Customs officers found the illegal drugs at the lower compartment of the luggage of one Nareerat Varitkitkajorn, a Thai national who arrived at Suvarnabhumi from the Philippines.

When she was arrested, Ms Nareerat told customs officials that the bag was not hers and that the luggage was only lent to her by a hotel in the Philippines. The suspect further said that she had no idea that anything was hidden in the suitcase’s compartments.

The authorities, however, did not buy the story and charged the suspect with smuggling illicit drugs. Ms Nareerat was turned over to the custody of the Narcotics Suppression Bureau, MCOT reported.
