Forty-four-year-old Araya Phuaksikaew has lodged a complaint with the Counter Corruption Division (CCD) of the Bangkok Police, claiming that police officers killed her son during an attempted arrest.
The incident in question took place on Jan. 27, on which date undercover police officers from the Wat Phraya Krai police station tried to buy yaba pills from 25-year-old Anant Promchan – Araya’s son.
When Anant jumped into a canal in an attempt to escape, police opened fire, missing Anant, but nonetheless causing him to stay in the water until he drowned a short while later. The Bangkok Post reports that police officers made attempts to rescue Anant, but that these were unsuccessful.
The police have not yet issued a statement in response to Araya’s accusation.
