A recent Bangkok Poll found that more than half of Bangkokians plan on staying in town for Songkran due to rising energy costs.
Just over 50% plan on staying in Bangkok, the poll found, while 23.78 percent will go to their hometowns, a Songkran tradition. Roughly 14 percent plan on traveling to other provinces while about 10 percent said they haven’t made a decision, TANN reported.
About 60 percent of respondents said that increased bus fares and fuel prices affecter their decision to travel during the holiday.
Khao San Road in Bangkok was deemed to be the top place to celebrate Songkran in Thailand with about 21 percent saying so, followed by about 17 percent picking Kue Muang in Chiang Mai province as number one. After that was Pattaya, which roughly 15 percent said was the top spot
Roughly 36 percent said they want police to set up check points to arrest drunk drivers.
