Angkhana Neelapalijit has written a petition to Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, calling on the PM to spur the Department of Special Investigations (DSI) to action in the case of her husband, Somchai Neelapalijit, who was taken by police forces in 2004.
In her letter, reprinted here by the Nation, Angkhana accuses the DSI of pursuing only political cases and ignoring “cases that affect ordinary people.” She calls on Yingluck, as ex officio chairperson of the Committee on Special Cases, to reopen the investigation into her husband’s disappearance.
Somchai, a prominent human rights lawyer, gained national and international attention when police abducted him in 2004. Nothing has been heard from him since.
As of this time, the PM has yet to tender a formal response.
