When it comes to gubernatorial candidates, environmentalists aren’t impressed

On Wednesday, representatives from the Thai Society of Environmental Journalists gathered to express their displeasure with Bangkok’s current crop of gubernatorial candidates (river-fording stunts notwithstanding).

Among the greens’ complaints were accusations that gubernatorial candidates had formed environmental policy without consulting the civil sector and that the candidates didn’t have a firm understanding of environmental issues.

The Bangkok Post reports that environmentalists at the forum had several recommendations for how to improve Bangkok’s polluted open spaces. The forum yielded calls to implement daily garbage collection in the city and to build out its bicycling infrastructure.

Conspicuously absent from the proceedings were the candidates themselves.
