Police have arrested a man who allegedly sexually assaulted or raped at least 10 women at deserted bus stops in Bangkok.
Keng Ninchu, 28, reportedly told police he picked on good-looking women as “revenge” because he thought he was ugly and had been hurt in relationships many times.
Thamsala Police Station officers acted after several victims reported that a man had groped them after they got off buses. Others said they had been abducted and raped.
It was the quick thinking of one of the victims that would lead to Mr. Keng’s arrest.
After Mr, Keng raped her, he made it clear he wanted her to be his girlfriend.
The woman pretended that she liked him and wanted to see him again, so she gave him her cellphone number. He then called her back to give her his own number – which she later handed to the police.
A female officer, pretending to be the victim, called Mr. Keng and arranged to meet him for dinner at a restaurant on Borom Ratchoni Road on Sunday evening.
Police officers hid in the area around the venue, waiting for the suspect to show up.
Mr. Keng eventually arrived in a pickup truck. Instead of getting out, he drove past the restaurant a few times but became spooked and drove home again.
Nevertheless, officers were able to note the vehicle registration number, which was registered under Mr. Keng’s name and address.
Yesterday they arrived at his house on Soi Thian Thale in Bang Khun Thian District with a warrant.
They arrested him without a struggle and took him to the station, where he confessed to more than 10 assaults.
He said he targeted pretty women getting off buses at deserted stops or footbridges, watching them for a couple of days beforehand to make sure they got off the bus at the same time every day.
He told police he would approach the women while shouting at them in a familiar manner so it looked like they were an arguing couple and passersby would not want to get involved.
When he got close enough, he would put a knife to their necks – and assault them.
Mr. Keng will be charged with rape, abduction and sexual assault of a person over 15 years old, Daily News reported.
