Pattaya police arrested two men for attacking Stuart Moses Levy, a 58-year-old retired British marine, on Soi 16 Marine Plaza in southern Pattaya.
Twenty-five-year-old Prasert Armartmultree and 19-year-old Wongsatorn Machok were caught on tape kicking and throwing a helmet at Stuart, who appeared intoxicated. The 40-second video has been circulating in the online community, prompting mixed criticisms from Thai netizens.
Prasert and Wongsatorn admitted to the assault but claimed that their action was only aimed at preventing Stuart from attacking a lady. According to Nation Channel, Stuart had an argument with a female bar owner after he had accidentally broken some Shisha smoking pipes at her bar. While defending himself against Prasert, Wongsatorn and other passersby who offered to help the bar owner, Stuart resorted to throwing snooker balls and rods at his assailants.
Kessuda Levy, Stuart’s 35-year-old Thai wife, told police that her husband was out to have breakfast at 7am the morning of the assault. She later found out that Stuart was attacked and intended to file a complaint with police. Prasert and Wongsatorn are being detained for interrogation.
