Cindy Burbridge Bishop, a 33-year-old model and diver, is gathering supporters for an online petition that demands the Swissotel Le Concorde Hotel Bangkok stop serving shark’s fin soup in its restaurants.
Bishop created the petition on Change.org this Wednesday with the intention of gathering 5,000 names before sending it to the luxury hotel on Rachadapisek Road in the Huay Khwang District.
“As I was about to propel myself back up to the surface, to my excitement, I could see a school of black tip sharks directly above me,” Cindy noted in the petition, referring to one of her diving trips. “They glide in and around each other seemingly oblivious to our presence.
“What magnificent creatures, so beautiful and so vital to the balance of ocean life. However, half the species of sharks on the planet are at risk of extinction and one of the reasons for that is shark fin soup.”
