Valentine’s Day curfew for youths in Thailand

Police in Thailand are asking parents to keep kids under the age of 18 in the house after 10pm on Valentine’s Day.

Royal Thai Police spokesman Maj-General Piya Uthayo said yesterday Feb. 8 that the national police chief is worried about youths “engaging in vice” on the day of love, The Nation reported.

Police will be patrolling public parks, theaters, karaoke bars, and entertainment venues, dormitories, hotels, and apartments the night of Valentine’s Day to make sure youth aren’t having sex or committing any other crimes.

If police find anyone under 18 outside after 10pm on Valentine’s Day they will be brought to police stations for their parents to pick them up, Piya said.

Police will also be setting up drunk driving checkpoints and asking nightlife venues to prevent underage people entering as they may engage in sexual activity.

Police are asking women not to wear skimpy outfits or high-value jewelry as “criminals will take advantage of large crowds on the day,” the Nation article said.

A recent poll found that many teenager’s plan on losing their virginity on Valentine’s Day.
