The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is setting up a mobile app competition for Thai university students to tackle perhaps the biggest issue in Thailand today: flooding and water management.
The competition, called Coding for Community, will award mobile apps that can be “directly applied to critical aspects of water and flood management,” according to a post on the Mobile Monday group Facebook page.
The team competition will be judged by a panel of experts and awards will be given out at an event at Earth Day on April 23, 2012.
Five teams will be chosen as finalists and will participate in a Mobile Technology Forum and Mentoring Contest on April 2.

USAID to Host Mobile App Competition for Thai University Students
******************************************************************************
The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) will host a special
science competition for Thai university students beginning February 1, 2012.
Called Coding for Community, the competition will be open to all university
students in Thailand and focus on a topic of significant concern to both Thailand and the United States: flood and water management.
The purpose of Coding for Community is to identify promising and innovative mobile applications that can be directly applied to critical aspects of water and flood management. It will be a team competition and prizes will be awarded by a panel of judges to the students with the best proposals at a special Earth Day event on April 23, 2012.
Five teams will be chosen as finalists and invited to participate in a special daylong Mobile Technology Forum and Mentoring Conference on April 2.
The Mentoring Conference is designed to give students direct, hands-on exposure to the technical and commercial expertise ofThailand’s business community. To help the students refine their mobile app designs and proposals, USAID is seeking individuals with the technical and commercial experience to act as mentors at this conference. Your help is greatly appreciated.
