UK universities open Masters degree scholarships to Thai students

Ambitious Thai students have just been granted the keys to the Commonwealth.

The British Embassy in Bangkok announced yesterday that Thais are now eligible to apply for Chevening Scholarships, a British academic award that allows students to attend a one-year Masters degree program at any of the UK’s universities, free of charge.

According to the Nation, the scholarships will support approximately 700 students and will be awarded to “exceptional individuals with leadership potential.”

Of course, this instance of British charity owes its existence equally to good will and foreign policy praxis. By ushering the best and brightest of Thailand’s future leaders into its academic fold, the UK is hoping to solidify its political ties to the Kingdom.
