Two young sisters drown at health club

A young mother has demanded a Bangkok health club take responsibility for the deaths of her two young daughters, who drowned in the facility’s swimming pool yesterday.

Wipaporn Swaengchanyasanti, 29, said she took her daughters – Supaporn, 9, and Suchada, 7 – to swimming lessons at the BB Training health club on Soi Chokchai 4, and that when the lesson finished she told them to stay in the pool a little longer while she went to the restroom, the Bangkok Post reported.

When she came back, she could not find the girls and searched the clubhouse. She returned to the pool to see staff pulling her daughters’ bodies from the water.

Admitting that it was partially her fault for not keeping an eye on her daughters, Ms. Wipaporn said she thought there were lifeguards or staff monitoring the pool. She added that she was “puzzled” no one saw her daughters drowning in broad daylight.

She has demanded the club take responsibility for their “carelessness”. Police said they will question the owner about security at the facility, adding that there had been a previous report about a child being electrocuted in the pool.
