Bangkok police have arrested two Liberian men for selling chemicals to an Australian, which they (the Liberians) claimed would turn a special paper into US banknotes.
Both Michael Merlyn Sebastian, 36, and Jesse Edward Fahnbulleh, 32, were taken into custody by Bangkok police on Thursday from their hotel room at the Holiday Inn Bangkok Silom.
An Australian who had purchased their bogus system for transforming paper into currency tipped off police to the pair. Apparently the Australian man had bought a set of chemicals from Sebastian and Fahnbulleh, which the Liberians claimed would turn strips of standard, black paper into US banknotes.
Needless to say, the glass tube and plastic bottle filled with unidentified substances that the Australian purchased failed to work any such magic. So incensed was the purchaser that he actually went to police, turned himself in and revealed the location of the scammers.
According to the Bangkok Post, police then staged a sting operation and took Sebastian and Fahnbulleh into custody.
