Troubled Assumption College head faces ouster

The Nation is reporting that Anant Prichavudhi, the embattled director of Assumption College, will be formally removed from his position later this week.

Despite his ouster, Anant’s two highest-profile (and most controversial) projects will be continued in his absence. Bancha Saenghirun, a representative of St. Gabriel’s Foundation, which funds Assumption College, stated that the college would continue construction of a branch campus on Rama II road and move forward with its plans to merge the primary and secondary sections of the school under a single license.

The aforementioned projects had put Anant at odds with Assumption’s teachers, who feared for their job security. Both teachers and Assumption alumni had organized protests against Anant and made vocal pleas for his ouster.

Bancha said that a formal announcement about Assumption’s directorship would be made this Wednesday. St. Gabriel’s Foundation has yet to name Anant’s successor.
