Toyota to save power by suspending production on April 5

In an effort to save electricity during the weeklong natural gas shortage expected to take place early next month, Toyota Motor Thailand has announced that it will suspend production at its Thai plants on the date of April 5.

Kyoichi Tanada, president of Toyota Motor Thailand, told the Nation that all three of Thailand’s Toyota plants would suspend production on the fifth – the date on which Thailand’s power supply is expected to be at its most dire.

Next month’s power shortage will last from April 4 to 12, during which time a key natural gas platform in Myanmar will be inoperable, owing to maintenance. Myanmar supplies 25% of Thailand’s natural gas and the platform’s closure is expected to create blackouts and brownouts throughout Bangkok.
