Tourist drowns in ocean while fleeing Thai gang

A British tourist in Pattaya has drowned after jumping into the ocean while attempting to escape a Thai gang.

According to the Bangkok Post, Patrick Molloy, 28, as well as James Wilks, 29, and Jerry Robson, 30, took to the sea in an attempt to flee a group of unidentified pursuers. Witnesses reported that five or six Thai men chased the group to the water’s edge and that all involved appeared to be drunk.

Wilks and Robson survived, the former by climbing on board a yacht and the latter by washing up on shore some 300 meters away.

Molloy was not so lucky. He survived initially by clinging onto a rope attached to a banana boat, but eventually lost consciousness and drowned. A fisherman pulled his body from the water and attempted to apply CPR, but Molloy had already perished.

Police report that Wilks and Robson were in shock when rescued and have since been returned to their hotel rooms. Their statements will be taken in an attempt to identify their pursuers.
