Everyone knows that Bangkok goes gaga for anything social media and mobile-related, but things may have reached a tipping point with the latest news from photo-sharing app Instagram.
Three locations in Bangkok have landed in the top 15 most popular places where photos were taken with the app, Instagram revealed on its blog recently.
That’s pretty nuts!
The number two most photographed place in the world after Disneyworld was Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, number nine was Siam Paragon mall, and number 13 was Terminal 21 mall. The only city with more places in Instagram’s top 15 was tech epicenter (and home to Instagram) San Francisco, with four locations. The Los Angeles and New York areas each had three locations on the list. The only other Asian location on the list was Hong Kong International Airport at number six.
That Instagram is so popular in Bangkok points to Thailand’s increased importance as an influential early adopter when it comes to cutting edge technology. In fact, the country ranked as the number one early adopter according to a study by audience measurement company Effective Measure.
According to SocialBakers, there are currently about 13.2 million Facebook users in Thailand and Bangkok is home to roughly 7.5 million, making it the fifth biggest city for Facebook on the world.
