On April 1, the Bank of Thailand (BoT) will release the 16th edition of the THB20 banknote for commercial use.
The new design will feature cutting-edge technologies that protect counterfeiting, facilitate use by the visually impaired and make it easier for automated teller machines to detect.
The new notes, measuring 7.2 by 13.8 centimeters, have security thread woven into the paper, which will change from green to red-purple when the notes are tilted.
According to the BoT, the notes are printed with a picture of Thailand’s King Bhumibol Adulyadej on the front side, and a picture of King Ramkhamhaeng The Great of the Phra Ruang dynasty on the back. The late king has been credited with the creation of the Thai alphabet.
People can replace their old THB20 notes with the new editions at all commercial banks in Thailand.
