THB155 million in drugs, contraband goods, counterfeit goods and wildlife seized

This morning, the Customs Department announced that it had seized smuggled drugs, contraband goods, counterfeit goods and wildlife worth a combined total of over THB155 million.

Customs Department Director-General Benja Louicharoen said that the illegal products had all been collected since the New Year’s festival, one of the longest, most important gift-giving periods in Thailand. Most of the illegal goods were reportedly imported from China.

The Department captured over 100,000 pieces of fake brand name clothing, bags, mobile phone accessories and pornographic materials. Other unlawful objects included 8,146 methamphetamine pills, 1.6 kilograms of marijuana, 20,000 tablets of Diazepam and Valium, 40 Siamese Rosewood logs, and 5,521 bottles of imported liquor and wine.

Among other things, Benja said that 29 birds classified as protected wildlife were captured, along with Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari cars.
