The Transport Ministry has unveiled plans for a massive THB150 billion ring road around Bangkok and through surrounding provinces, the Bangkok Post has reported. The six-lane, 280-kilometer road will use a canal rather than a traffic median to prevent flooding and will pass through Ayutthaya, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Prakan and Bangkok. Transport permanent secretary Supoj Saplom said that if the TH150 billion price tag is too high, certain non-essential features of the project could be reviewed and possibly cut. The ministry will present the complete plan to the government in two months.
