The 14th Association de la Sommellerie Internationale (ASI) Contest of the Best Sommeliers in the World, informally known as “the Olympics of Sommeliers,” saw its first ever Thai contestant when the competition took place from March 26 – 30 in Tokyo this year.
Although he did not win, Mr. Chalong Songkroh still made history for the Kingdom by virtue of participating. The winner of Thailand’s Best Sommelier in 2012 will now return to his day job, acting as Anantara Phuket Villas’ Wine Guru.
As reported in Phuket News, Mr. Chalong hails from Roi-et and has acted as resident wine expert at Anantara since 2011. His interest in crushed grapes stems from his time studying tourism and hotel management at Mahasarakham University.
The future indeed looks bright for this wunderkind of the vine!
