Thailand’s largest drug bust in years in Bangkok

Bangkok police recently seized 3.8 million ya ba (methamphetamine) pills in the largest drug bust Thailand has seen in years, the AP reported.

The stash was worth over THB1 billion (USD31.7 million).

Police Maj. Gen. Comronwit Toopgrajank said the pills and 71kg of crystal meth were found in an abandoned house in the northern suburbs of Bangkok. No information was given on exactly where the house was located.

Police raided the house on Jan. 21 after locating a driver who ditched his car following a car chase.

In a similar haul, police found an abandoned suspected military van carrying three million ya ba pills in Pathum Thani’s Thanyaburi district, TANN reported.

Army spokesperson Colonel Sansern Kaewkamnerd said that police found a suspicious van left by Khlong Song in Rangsit. Crystal meth was also found in the van.
