Attracted by cheap hotels, and free to pursue international travel thanks to a fitfully expanding economy, more and more Indian couples are looking to Thailand as the place to tie the knot.
According to a report from Bloomberg, Thailand has become the premier international destination for Indian weddings – fetes that often stretch across five nights and feature as many as 300 guests.
With food and beverages in Thailand sometimes 60% cheaper than their Indian equivalents, Indian families can afford to spend more on the increasingly opulent affairs.
Thailand, for its part, has welcomed the attention – and the extra revenue. An upper-middle-class Indian wedding can often come with a price tag as high as USD34,000 to USD1 million.
