Thailand sets world record for free eye care

On Sunday, Thailand set a world record by providing 450 patients with free eye care within the space of an hour. This marks a 300% improvement over the previous record, which was accomplished with only 140 people.

Fifty doctors volunteered their time to help attain the record, which was christened by an official observer from the Guinness Book of World Records.

The Volunteer Doctors Project organized the event, which brought together doctors who gave freely of their time to form a mobile medical unit. In addition to the 450 patients who helped attain the world record, the free clinic also serviced an additional 4,500 patients, via the efforts of 300 volunteer doctors.

The Bangkok Post reports that according to King Prajadhipok’s Institute (KPI) secretary general Borwonsak Uwanno, this event was the largest of its kind ever in Thailand.
