Science and Technology Minister Woravat Auapinyakul has a plan for attracting industrial investment to Thailand, and that plan is to build Southeast Asia’s first “technology theme park.”
The Nation reports that Woravat is modeling his proposed park after Universal Studios (curious, seeing as Universal Studios is not educational and only kind of fun) and that the project will have a price tag of THB44.16 billion.
If approved, the park will occupy 500 rai of land in Pathum Thani. Woravat has proposed repurposing the “Techno Thani” complex as the park’s grounds.
With the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) looming, projects such as this are being undertaken in an effort to portray Thailand as a country ripe for high-technology investment.
