The 28th Thailand International Motor Expo kicked off today Dec. 1 at IMPACT Area in Muang Thong Thani, Nonthaburi with the theme “Automobile Blossoms in Full Bloom.”
Attendance was rather sparse this afternoon, but perhaps that’s to be expected since it’s a weekday. Major crowds are expected this weekend.
All the biggest global brands have a presence at the Expo this year, with most upscale seemingly trying to outdo each other with how luxurious their displays can be. BMW, for example, has a full-on cafe where prospective owners can sip lattes while poring over sale documents. Japanese brand Isuzu and Indian brand Tata played up the flood-capable angle for their trucks, with flat bottom boats prominently displayed in their beds. A tough looking Isuzu with a snorkel drew a big crowd.
Also drawing crowds, and fitting in nicely with the “Blossoms in Full Bloom” theme, were countless “pretty” promotional models posing and preening next to cars for photographers.
A nice selection of classic cars, from Ford Thunderbirds to very early Mercedes Benzes were lined up outside the show.
The expo is expected to generate THB26 billion in circulation, president Kwanchai Prapatpong told MCOT.The show should be a nice economic shot in the arm for the area, from which floodwaters just receded recently.
The 28th Thailand International Motor Expo runs until Dec. 12 at IMPACT Arena, with free shuttle busses running every day from the Mo Chit BTS Station
