Thailand hosted record numbers of tourists in 2012

As reported by the Financial Times, Thailand has had a good year. Both in terms of its tourism industry and stock market, the Kingdom is performing above expectations and in flagrant defiance of the 0% economic growth it displayed in 2011, as the result of flooding and political unrest.

A 16% increase in tourism traffic has led to 22.3 million visitors arriving this year in Thailand (a record number), bringing with them revenues of almost THB100 billion. Next year, the Tourism Authority of Thailand hopes to break this record once again by bringing in 24.5 million tourists.

The Times reports that Thailand’s stock market has posted some impressive numbers as well. In addition to netting record amounts of foreign investment, the Thai market has outperformed nearly all of its Asian peers.
