Thai Police: ‘Alcohol laws will be strictly enforced during Songkran’

According to National Police Bureau spokesman Police Major General Piya Utayo, Thailand will be strictly enforcing its alcohol laws during this month’s Songkran holiday in an effort to reduce alcohol-related accidents and deaths.

In a statement to the National News Bureau of Thailand, Pol Maj General Piya said that police were giving special attention to laws having to do with alcohol sales. They intend to make sure that laws restricting the hours during which alcohol can be sold, the sale of alcohol to intoxicated persons and the sale of alcohol to those under 20 are strictly enforced.

This year’s Songkran alcohol crackdown seems more vigorous than years past, but we have a feeling that revelers still won’t have much trouble getting their hands on booze.
