Thai Olympic weightlifting silver medalist Pimsiri Sirikaew arrived to a hero’s welcome at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport on Sunday.
Pimsiri’s parents traveled from Khon Kaen Province to greet their daughter and congratulate her on her performance in London. The weightlifter dedicated the medal to her mother in advance of National Mother’s Day on August 12 and expressed appreciation for the government for support.
The 22-year-old Khon Kaen native, achieved her second place silver medal in the 58k divisoin with total of 236kg lifted – 100kg in the snatch lift and 136kg in the clean and jerk, 10kg behind China’s Li Xueying who snatched an Olympic record of 108kg and lifted 138kg in the clean and jerk for an Olympic record total of 246kg.
Pimsiri said that she will now work even harder to try to earn gold at the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.
