The Thai government has announced that a longstanding stricture restricting the length of Thai students’ hair will be amended to allow for longer styles.
The changes, announced this morning by the Nation, come after widespread student complaints concerning the government’s old policy, which allowed performing art school students to wear their hair at any length, while regular school students were subjected to a far stricter dress code.
In the past, male students have been restricted to hair lengths of 5 centimeters or less and female students have been induced to wear their hair no lower than the base of their necks.
According to the new rules, males will still have an obligation to wear “short” hair, whereas female students will have their choice of either short or long locks.
