Suspect charged for Silom jewelry shop owner’s murder

Police have charged a man with murder for killing a Silom jewelry shop owner who was found shot to death in his Mercedes-Benz near Rama III Road in late December.

City police chief Pol Lt Gen Winai Thongsong said that 27-year-old Thanasit Srisomparn, alias Tong Bang Bua, shot three .38mm bullets through victim Hamad Muhamed’s right temple, left clavicle, and right wrist.

Thanasit was caught by police in a house in Kamphaeng Phet’s Muang district, the Bangkok Post reported.

Hamad, also known as Tommy, ran a jewelry shop on Silom Road.

Suspect Thanasit said he killed Hamad when he discovered that the victim had stolen 40g of crystal meth from him. The drugs were found in Hamad’s Mercedes.

Sophia Muhamed, the victim’s sister, said that Thanasit was lying. She said her brother had lent Thanasit large amounts of money and was killed because he refused to lend any more.

Thanasit is being charged with covering up a crime and illegal fire arms possession in addition to murder. He has fingered two other men as accomplices and police are currently gathering evidence to seek warrants for their arrest, Pol Lt Gen Winai said.

Police confiscated many valuable possessions that Thanasit stole from Hamad as well, including a Louis Vuitton wallet, THB78,000 in cash, a gold necklace, and a Rolex watch.
