Sukhumbhand to resign one day before term ends

Incumbent governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra will submit his resignation to the BMA’s secretary general on Jan. 9, several hours before midnight, when his term will officially end.

Sukhumbhand is claiming that his intention to quit before his term expires on Jan. 10 is designed to ensure fair competition in the city election.

According to FM91, his early resignation will prolong the election period from 45 to 60 days. As a result, the gubernatorial race will take place on Mar. 3, instead of the previously scheduled date of Feb. 19.
