Bangkok Governor M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra says that the bulk of northern runoff will hit Bangkok tonight Oct. 26 and that all 50 districts of the capital should brace for flooding, according to MCOT.
Flooding has spread southward through the city from Don Mueang, with Lak Si starting to flood from Vibhavadi-Rangsit highway and Saphan Mai from Paholyothin Road, the Nation reported. The waters should reach Lad Prao junction soon. As the Don Mueang area becomes increasing inundated, the State Railway of Thailand is moving flood evacuees from Don Mueang Airport to Petchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Sara Buri, and Lop Buri, MCOT reported. All flights at Don Mueang Airport were stopped yesterday afternoon indefinitely as all runways are now under water, according to the Bangkok Post.
Meanwhile the western banks of the Chao Phraya River have caused flooding in Bangkok’s Thonburi well, with Charansanitwong Road in Bang Plad under one meter of water and Pinklao road knee-deep, according to TAN.
Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra inspected Siriraj Hospital, the Grand Palace, and Rattanakosin Island to see how these important areas could be better protected this afternoon, the Bangkok Post said. The Thai Army has been building up floodwalls around Siriraj Hospital. For Coconuts Bangkok photos of the protection of Siriraj, click here.
