Suicide could be responsible for hotel fire

Bangkok police chief Pol Maj Gen Khamronwit Thoopkrajang said yesterday that Saturday’s fire at the Grand Tower Inn on Rama VI road might have been caused by a hotel employee’s suicide attempt.

While investigating the fire, police found a suicide note belonging to 45-year-old Pongsakorn Boon-aram, an employee at the hotel, who is now the primary suspect in the blaze.

The Nation reports that Pongsakorn died in the fire, which ravaged the eight-storey structure. Eleven guests were hospitalized with smoke inhalation.
