Sources from within the Pheu Thai Party have told the Nation that Sudarat Keyuraphan will join the mayoral campaign of Pongsapat Pongcharoen, her one-time rival for the Pheu Thai nomination.
On Monday, after Pongsapat has resigned his post as secretary-general of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board, Sudarat will begin helping him draft a campaign platform and adopt a strategy for running against Democrat nominee Sukhumbhand Paribatra.
Sudarat remains a powerful force within the Pheu Thai Party and was an executive of its predecessor – the since-defunct Thai Rak Thai Party.
There had previously been widespread speculation that Sudarat herself would secure the Pheu Thai Party’s endorsement for the governorship, but she withdrew her candidacy shortly before the Party appointed its nominee.
