Startup Weekend Bangkok 2011 launched last Friday Dec. 16 at Lebua State Tower in Silom.
The conference aims to showcase Thailand’s best digital startup ideas in a contest format with the winner representing Thailand at a regional bootcamp in Singapore in January.
At the event in Singapore, competitors will be vying over S$15,000 and guidance from venture capital fund Singtel Innov8, the Bangkok Post reported. Singtel Innov8 is wholly owned by Singapore telecom company Singtel.
Bangkok Startup Weekend is sponsored by telecom company AIS, which was also celebrating the recent launch of the iPhone 4S in Thailand.
According to a blog posting from event organizer Erin Frey, there were 96 pitches from the 120 participants on the first night of the event.
