Beleaguered Channel 3 host Sorayuth Suthassanachinda has resigned from the Thai Journalists Association (TJA) after media professionals urged him to step down from his television hosting job owing to charges of embezzlement .
The National Anti-Corruption Commission has decided to take legal action against Sorayuth for alleged embezzlement and bribing a government employee over unpaid advertising shares.
Sorayuth sent a brief letter to the TJA notifying them of his immediate resignation. The embattled media practitioner was an associate member since 1993. However, reports said that Sorayuth has been remiss in paying his membership dues for many years.
TJA deputy secretary-general Pramed Lekpetch acknowledged receipt of Sorayuth’s resignation . The TJA, along with other professional media groups, have been urging Sorayuth to resign from his TV hosting job or at least go on leave while the embezzlement case against him is ongoing.
The NACC has filed a criminal case against Sorayuth for allegedly embezzling some TBH138.79 million in advertising revenues. His company Raisom, produced a television show for state-run Channel 9 during 2005 and 2006.
