Small hole on Sukhumvit Road causes traffic headache

A meter-wide hole formed at on Sukhumvit Road at Asoke intersection on Sunday morning, causing a traffic snarl-up before it was quickly repaired.

The hole was most likely caused by the installation of new water pipelines to Ratchada Road by the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (MWA), said Wiparat Chaiyanukij, director of Klong Toey District Office.

Rainfall may have washed away soil under the road, causing the hole, the Bangkok Post reported.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Authority’s civil engineers did a temporary fix on the hole, but the MWA will complete a permanent repair.

Bigger sinkholes have already formed on Chaeng Wattana and Rama IV roads this year.
