Competition in Bangkok’s food delivery business is about to get more bearish, as Rocket Internet is launching delivery service FoodPanda in Thailand soon.
Bangkok has been abuzz lately with the news that Rocket Internet – a German company known for making almost exact replicas of successful American websites and business models – is expanding into Thailand andhiring in the capital. Their shoes and fashion e-commerce website Zalora is already up and running in Thailand and FoodPanda looks to be their second venture.
A cryptic tweet was sent yesterday March 19 from the handle @foodpanda_th to several Bangkok news sites including Coconuts Bangkok, saying “Are you ready for a culinary revolution, its coming this week!” Right now the website only has a mailing list sign-up, though.
German tech news site Deutsche Startups reported recently that Rocket was launching FoodPanda in Southeast Asia with the slogans “Where pizza meets noodle soup” and “The greatest food delivery website is coming soon to a next area to you.”
