The Royal Thai Police have had a fantastic week, bringing in a combined total of more than THB2 billion in methamphetamines.
This titanic haul came as the result of four separate busts, during which police apprehended, in total, five million methamphetamine tablets and more than 136 kilograms of “ya” ice.
Most of the drugs came from two shipments, which were intercepted en route from Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai to Bangkok.
At an announcement concerning the bust, which was attended by Deputy Prime Minster Chalerm Yubamrung, police revealed that all the apprehended speed pills bore the same logo and had originated, they suspect, from the same meth lab, just north of the Thai border.
The Bangkok Post reports that Chalerm used the opportunity to push for a more rapid timeline for the execution of drug offenders, an action that he said would free up the country’s prison system for the processing of freshly busted criminals.
