Reducing British road accidents abroad? There’s an app for that

In response to the sizable number of road accidents involving touring Brits and British expats, the British government has developed an app, aimed at helping traveling Britons stay safe while on the (foreign) road.

Developed by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the Road Safety Overseas widget will offer road safety advice and alerts to traveling Britons, as well as legal information about the country in which they are traveling.

According to figures provided by Sky News, British citizens have more than proven the necessity of this digital, roadside assistant.

In 2011, Thailand suffered 68,852 traffic accidents, 9,205 of which resulted in at least one death. Compare this with Great Britain, where only 1,901 people were killed in traffic accidents during the same time period.

Most recently, two British cyclists were killed traveling through Thailand, an incident that caught international attention and reiterated the necessity of safety measures for British tourists taking the road while abroad.
