A few thousand Red Shirt protesters demonstrated yesterday at Democracy Monument in Bangkok to mark the 5th anniversary of the 2006 coup that removed Thaksin Shinawatra from power.
Red Shirt leaders Jatuporn Prompan, Nattawut Saikua, Korkaew Pikulthong, and Weng Tojirkan – who are all now part of the government as Pheu Thai MPs – led the gathering, according to MCOT.
United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) leader Thida Thavornsreth was also there.
The AFP quoted special branch police as estimating the number of demonstrators at 6,000.
1,000 police officers monitored the peaceful event.
