Red Bull heir Vorayuth to pay THB3 million to dead policeman’s family

Red Bull heir Vorayuth Yoovidhya has agreed to pay THB3 million to the family of the policeman who was killed by his speeding Ferrari earlier this month.

Pol Lt Col Wiradol Thapthimdee, an investigator at Thong Lor police station responsible for the case, is most likely a move to avert a civil case against. Vorayuth.

The family of Thonglor policeman Pol Snr Sgt Maj Wichian Klanprasert has agreed to accept the sum.

Vorayuth is facing charges of hit-and-run and drunk-driving after he crashed into the back of Wichian’s motorcycle at high speed on Sukhumvit Road Sep. 3.

Pol Lt Col Wiradol said that the investigation against Vorayuth will end this month and that police are awaiting full results of a test that showed narcotics in his blood, the Bangkok Post reported.

He said that Vorayuth is likely to be charged with a narcotics violation as well.

The crash initially caused outrage amongst Thais on online forums about the rich getting off easy for offenses that normal people would do hard time for. Perhaps that is why Vorayuth doesn’t seem to be getting off so lightly. The case isn’t over yet though.

Vorayuth is the grandson of late billionaire Red Bull founder Chaleo Yoovidhya.
