Rambo-inspired bank robber sentenced to 38 years in prison

Today, a 42-year-old man who robbed a Lat Phrao bank has been sentenced to 38 years in prison.

Thaneth Chomkrung pleaded guilty to the armed robbery of Kasikorn Bank Lat Phrao 71 Branch, as well as an attempted murder charge. The Bang Kho Laem resident admitted that on Nov. 3 he approached the teller’s counter with a pistol and a dummy time bomb. He swiped THB956,200 in cash from the counter, put it in his bag and left the bank.

Thaneth was arrested that same day. He confessed that he planned to use the money to clear up his debts and that his felonious operation was inspired by the action film series Rambo.

According to Dailynews, the Criminal Court had given him a 38-year-and-four-month prison sentence. It reduced the jail time to 19 years and two months since his plea was deemed helpful to the judgment.
