Residents of the Ram Intra area of Bangkok briefly blocked Ram Intra 5 road today, calling for the Bangkok Metropolitan Authority to drain floodwater from their community within seven days.
The crowd brought a six-wheel truck to block traffic on the road, the Bangkok Post reported. They later agreed to stop blocking traffic and discuss the issue with the chief of Bang Khen district.
The protestors reportedly forwarded a petition to Watcharaporn Kawayapanik, director of Bang Khen district office, where they said that the BMA’s plan to use Bang Khen as a water retention area for runoff from Saphan Mai and Sai Mai was causing them major stress. They said the proposal would prolong the flooding in Ram Intra. The protestors said that if water did not lower enough, they would gather again.
